Ondo Opens 24/7 Onchain Exposure To Private Companies

TL;DR

  • Ondo Finance has introduced Ondo Private Markets, a platform for tokenized exposure to private companies before they list publicly.
  • The first market is tied to a pre-IPO AI company, with more sectors planned.
  • The products are aimed at eligible investors outside the United States and represent economic exposure rather than ordinary direct ownership of private-company shares.

Ondo Finance is taking its tokenization model beyond Treasuries and listed securities into one of the least liquid parts of capital markets: private companies.

The firm introduced Ondo Private Markets on October 5, promising tokenized exposure that can trade around the clock rather than only through private secondary-market windows.

The first market is expected to track a pre-IPO AI company, with robotics, cybersecurity, biotech and infrastructure names planned later.

Private Market Exposure Becomes Transferable Onchain

Private-company investing is usually difficult to access.

Shares are not listed on public exchanges, minimum investment sizes can be large and secondary liquidity is fragmented. Even investors who gain access may have limited ability to sell before an IPO or acquisition.

Ondo’s structure is designed to turn the economic exposure into an onchain token that can move through secondary markets.

That does not magically turn private equity into a public stock.

The legal rights, eligibility requirements and underlying structure still matter, and the tokens should not be described as ordinary shares carrying direct voting rights.

The Product Pushes RWA Tokenization Into Harder Territory

Tokenized Treasuries have been one of crypto’s clearest real-world asset successes because the underlying instruments are standardized and highly liquid.

Private-company exposure is much more complicated.

Valuations can be less transparent, liquidity is thinner and corporate information is not disclosed on the same schedule as public-company filings.

That makes Ondo Private Markets a more ambitious test of whether blockchain rails can improve access without hiding the risks that come with the underlying asset.

The 24/7 trading angle will attract attention, but liquidity will be the more important metric.

A market being technically open around the clock does not guarantee there will always be deep bids and offers available.

If Ondo can solve that problem, private-company tokens could become a meaningful new branch of the RWA market. If it cannot, the product may prove that putting an illiquid asset onchain does not automatically make the asset liquid.
