Digital asset marketplace Bakkt announced a partnership with the sandwich restaurant chain Quiznos, to launch its first physical location pilot enabling customers to pay for their food in Bitcoin (BTC).
Starting mid-August, diners can opt for crypto payments at selected Quiznos restaurants in the Denver area, including the high-traffic location at the Denver International Airport.
Bitcoin as a simple payment option
Bakkt announced the partnership to launch its first physical location pilot on Twitter earlier this week.

“We will closely watch how this pilot performs, with the potential to expand the partnership to additional Quiznos locations across the country,” said Sheela Zemlin, Chief Revenue Officer at Bakkt, in a press release.
To help and kick start the pilot, diners who download the Bakkt App, buy Bitcoin, and use it to pay for their next Quiznos meal will receive $15 worth of crypto as a reward.
With this move, Bakkt continues expanding its partner network, set to make crypto “as liquid as fiat currency,” while the company keeps discovering new ways to establish Bitcoin as a simple payment option in day-to-day lives.
Bringing Bitcoin to the mainstream consumer market
“Through this partnership, we are introducing unique experiences to Quiznos customers by enabling them to take advantage of new ways to interact with digital assets and bringing Bitcoin utility to the mainstream consumer market,” said Zemlin.
At the same time, such partnerships also enable merchants and franchisees to opt for accepting Bitcoin (BTC) payments, without renouncing the cash-settled experience.
“Partnering with an innovative platform such as Bakkt is appealing to us for a number of reasons, primarily because it allows us to accept Bitcoin directly at the point of sale as part of a quick and seamless transaction,” said Mark Lohmann, President of REGO Restaurant Group, which owns Quiznos and other national QSR chains.
Americans can enjoy tasting Bitcoin adoption as it slowly but surely advances through the very basics of everyday life.
